Smith County to Discuss Possible Local Vol State Class Offerings

The Smith County Chamber of Commerce welcomes new member Smith County Celebrates. Smith County Celebrates, Inc. is a local non-profit,non-partisan organization established to celebrate the history and heritage of Smith County and its residents, both past and present. Their annual banquet honors Cordell Hull and Al Gore, Jr., two Nobel Peace Prize recipients from Smith County. This annual celebration and its year-round initiatives provide a unique crossroads for a diverse community of residents, business members, educators,and civic practitioners. Proceeds from this event will assist with providing a mobile educational exhibit related to the two Nobel Peace Prize winners from Smith County, with photos, historical documents, and artifacts. The exhibit will be available to local businesses, schools, and organizations on their premises upon request. It will also help provide four$500 recurring local scholarships to students in Smith County. The 2018 banquet was held at the Smith County Agricultural Center on August 18th. Dinner was provided by Helen’s Restaurant. Mr. Walter Glenn Birdwell and Jack McCall served as keynote speakers. Carol Brown Andrews emceed the event. Invocation will be given by Carthage United Methodist Church Pastor, Monica Mowdy. In attendance for the dinner were Gore and his daughter Karenna Gore Schiff. After the night’s presentations were complete, Al Gore mingled with other event attendees, pausing for pictures and personally congratulating the local scholarship recipients.

Carthage Family Chiropractic Celebrates New Location

On March 23, 2018, the Smith County Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Carthage Family Chiropractic, LLC at their new location of 906 Main Street North in Carthage. Dr. Melanie Cripps is the solo practitioner and owner. ​As a Division 1 college softball player, Dr. Cripps’s life was changed by chiropractic. Suffering from daily headaches, shoulder pain, muscle strains and more, she sought the help of a chiropractor. Chiropractic helped Dr. Cripps and allowed her to complete her years of NCAA competition without the use of drugs or surgery. She decided to devote her career to helping others naturally. She graduated from Life University in Marietta, Georgia and moved to Carthage to pursue her passion for chiropractic care.  Dr. Cripps treats a variety of conditions for babies, children, teenagers, adults, athletes, and retirees. In addition to Chiropractic, Dr. Cripps implements the use of soft tissue treatment, therapeutic exercise, ​and nutrition. ​​ She is certified in the Graston Technique and ​Functional Movement Systems​. Dr. Cripps is a current member of the Tennessee Chiropractic Association and a board member of the Smith County Chamber of Commerce.

The Smith County Chamber of Commerce would like to welcome one of its newest members, Hassler Law Firm. Hassler Law Firm is located at 226 Main Street North in Carthage, on the second floor of the Bass & Bass Building. the Hassler Law Firm is a general practice firm that serves the Upper Cumberland. The firm’s areas of practice include Business Formation, Contracts, Estates, Landlord/Tenant, Mediation, Probate, Real Estate, School Law, Social Security/Disability, and Wills.

Jeremy Hassler started his career as an educator after graduating from Tennessee Technological University with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education.  He later earned his Master of Arts in Instructional Leadership from the same university.  During his stint as a teacher, he taught 8th-12th grade Social Studies both in the classroom and in an on-line environment.  He also spent several years assisting high school marching bands as a drum major coach, assistant director, and a semester as an interim-director. After teaching for a time, he decided to go back to school and attended the Nashville School of Law.  Upon graduation, he was awarded the Founder’s Award for obtaining the highest GPA in his graduating class. Originally from Crossville, Jeremy and his wife Kristi (a Smith County native) reside in Carthage with their two daughters.

We are staffed by two  Optometrist, Dr. Garrett Shepherd and Dr. Jonathan Coble.  Dr. Shepherd received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN in 2005.  He also has a practice at Huddleston & Shepherd Family Vision in Cookeville, TN.  Dr. Coble, originally from West Tennessee, graduated with a degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Tennessee at Martin.  He also continued to Southern College of Optometry and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
